Breweries in Marquette, Michigan
A local’s guide to craft beer in Marquette
Marquette Mi may be a small college town, but we have no shortage of good beer. From cozy brewpubs to a vintage supper club turned farmhouse brewery, check out some of the best breweries and bars in Marquette, Michigan.
Blackrocks Brewery
Blackrocks has been our spot since we moved to Marquette back in 2018. The Victorian house turned pub has a cheery yellow exterior that’s like a beacon for beer lovers, calling you to come in and hang out for a while. In the winter, there’s nothing better than a day of skiing and finishing the day with a pint by the fire. In the summer and fall, live music on the patio and food trucks slingin’ delicious food make for a perfect night out.
There’s always a handful of really unique and pub-exclusive beers on tap so get a sample or two before you decide. It’s very kid-friendly so if you’re visiting with kids, definitely bring them along—they’re sure to make some friends. I'm a big fan of the brewery’s lager series and if you like IPAs, you can’t go wrong with Mykiss IPA or 51K. They stock sodas and sparkling water for non-beer drinkers and kids too. *Note this is not a dog-friendly brewery, even on the patio.
Barrel + Beam Brewery
This classic midwestern supper club turned brewhouse is one of the coziest places for a beer and a bite. The building is a unique log cabin chalet with plenty of seating indoors and outside. Barrel + Beam’s beer list is unique and filled with farmhouse ales, fruited sours, ciders, and wines with Michigan-grown ingredients. My favorite fruited sour is the Spooky Kriek (cherry) and I love the classic Saison as well. You can shop unique U.P. merch and NA drinks as well in the pub. The Northwoods Test Kitchen offers creative and tasty snacks and sandwiches (Banh Mi!) if you get hungry. From wreath making to Cider Day, Barrel + Beam hosts really fun events year round so check out their event calendar.
Ore Dock Brewing
Part brewery part live music venue, Ore Dock Brewing is a fun downtown spot. The tap list offers a crowd-pleasing variety plus lots of NA drinks for non-beer drinkers and kiddos. The porter is a favorite on a chilly day. Whether you’re on a bike ride on the city’s multi-use path or spending the day shopping, this is a convenient place to take a break. Don’t miss checking out the Lower Harbor Ore Dock while you’re here.
The Vierling Restaurant & Brewpub
Eating whitefish is an absolute must when in Marquette and why not get the freshest fish in town with a cold beer? The Vierling is the oldest brewery in town and has an excellent view of Lake Superior’s harbor. Kick back with a beer and a big plate of whitefish—my go-to is the blueberry wheat, especially in the summer.
Drifa Brewing
Grab a pint by the lake at Michigan’s first brewery cooperative. Drifa Brewing is a little off the beaten path and has a casual tap room and sunny, dog-friendly lawn for furry friends. The tap list offers small-batch beers brewed in-house, guest ciders, and wine.
