American travelers might not always be able to take a two-week cross-country trip, but road trips are alive and well in the USA. I do love a good road trip; it's a lot easier to take the dogs with us and stop for photos easily.

According to travel and hospitality marketing firm, MMGY Global, most American vacations — some 85 percent — are domestic. And while it may be tempting to attribute the interest in road-tripping to nostalgia (and there is certainly some of that), it seems the top reasons people are hitting the road are matters of practicality.

So far this summer I've been soaking up as much Bloomington as possible I did venture to Chicago for my epic belated bday celebration including a VIBEUP yoga festival and Taylor Swift concert. But this month, Ryan and I are road tripping from Denver to Crested Butte and we can't wait. There will be lots of hiking and beer involved so stay tuned!

Follow me on Instagram for updates from the road.

Now that summer is officially here, check out my top 10 picks from #theusiscooltoo Instagram gallery.

My friend Dawn and her man took a trip to New England to kick off the summer and the photos are so beautiful. I've not yet explored that area so I loved following along with this trip. Go check out her feed!

I still haven't been to Michigan yet! I have a feeling that is about to change :) Thanks for sharing this one Megan!

As a Georgia native peach season is my fav. I can't freaking wait until The Peach Truck stops in Bloomington in a few weeks; I desperately need to stock up!

That Spanish Moss gets me every time. If you haven't checked out Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, it is a must.

A California coast trip is on my to-do list for sure. Have you driven the Cali coast before?

Placemaking murals keep making appearances in downtown areas across the country and I'm all for it. Do you have a favorite? I'm partial to the Willie for President one in Austin but there are so many good ones out there! Keep your eyes peeled next time you're on the road.

Another one :)

My blogger friend Theresa is on another Two Lane Gem road trip for her next book. If you like easy going road trips and roadside quirkyness, go check her out.

I love Asheville, North Carolina but I've yet to visit the beautiful Biltmore Estate. Have you? Thanks for sharing Julie!
