Is Forsyth Park a kid-friendly place in Savannah?

Short answer—yes! Savannah, GA is a favorite getaway for couples and friend trips but I think its an under-the-radar spot to take kids of all ages. And Forsyth Park is at the top of my list of things to do with kiddos in Savannah. If you’ve never been to Savannah with kids, check out my five reasons to visit Forsyth Park.

#1 Enjoy a picnic in the park

Picnic culture is paramount in Savannah. The weather is nice most of the year so it’s a great place to enjoy a dining al fresco beneath towering oak trees. Picnicking is great for kids because you don’t need a reservation, they can take breaks when they need and run around, and if they get tired, they can stretch out on a picnic blank and take a snooze. With little kids, try setting a boundary for them so they know how far they can roam within your line of sight. In Savannah you can enjoy adult beverages in the park as well so extra fun for the adults in your group. If you want to level up your picnic spread, check out Provisions in downtown Savannah.

#2 Farmers market on Saturday

There’s so much to see at a farmers market and the Forsyth Park Farmers Market is no exception. There are dozens of food vendors, artisans, musicians, and more. If you’re staying in a vacation rental in Savannah, you can get your shopping done locally while entertaining and feeding your hungry littles. This is a really busy market with locals and visitors so if you are shopping for groceries, I’d recommend going as early as you can. We got all our ingredients to make Shrimp and Grits plus some other snacks.

#3 Brunch at Collins Quarter

I’ve learned over the years traveling with Fern that its much easier to eat at a nicer restaurant for brunch than it is dinner. Collins Quarter is a local favorite restaurant in downtown Savannah and their Forsyth Park location is one of the best brunch spots in the city. It has a massive dog-friendly patio, excellent coffee, plenty of boozy cocktails and kid-friendly dishes. The staff are really friendly and patient making the experience even better. We ordered mushroom toast (YUM), avocado toast, and chicken and waffles. Everything is so good!

They have some unique salads and bowls that sound delicious plus several hearty savory options too. The booze menu is excellent with lots of beer, wine and cocktail options. I also can’t recommend the espresso tonic enough! Many coffee shops in Savannah serve espresso tonics and they are the perfect pick me up on a hot day.

#4 Fun on two playgrounds

This is pretty self explanatory when you have young kids that need to burn some energy. The newer and bigger playground is right next door to the Collins Quarter coffee window which is handy. The other is just across the promenade near the gardens. We came to the playgrounds a lot during our trip so Fern could meet and play with other kids.

The Forsyth Park fountain is one of the most iconic places in Savannah and an awesome spot for family photos. The fountain is the park’s centerpiece and over 150 years old. Even if you don’t have a tripod or photographer booked, there are always friendly folks around the fountain that will gladly take your photo.
