Virgin Apothecary: The Best Travel Skin Care Kit + A Giveaway

When in Arizona you need one hell of a moisturizer.

When I found out about my trip to Arizona back in April, I was in dire need of some travel friendly skin care products that would keep my skin moisturized in the desert heat and pack easily. Luckily I discovered Virgin Apothecary, a new line of products made in my hometown of St. Simons Island. I've known Gina, Virgin Apothecary's founder for a while now through my sister Madeline, but had no idea she had become a green skin care guru. She has created her line "for the beauty minimalist." Virgin Apothecary's formulations are made from simple blends of active oils that target a multitude of areas to achieve the perfect balance for our skin." I connected to VA's principles right away.

Keep It Simple

My routine is and isn't purposefully simple. For my birthday one year my mom got me a facial, 90 minutes of bliss. Joy, the magician (esthetician) is a firm believer in simplicity, so much so that her company is called Simple Skin. She taught me a lot about plant based skin care and I decided a while back that I wasn't going to purchase skin care and makeup with parabens and other chemicals. If I'm going to slather my face and body with creams and serums then I sure as hell want to know exactly what is in it. On the other hand, I'm a low maintenance person in general so having a simple skin care regimen is pretty much the only way to go in my opinion.

My skin can get pretty dry, my hands especially, so a rich salve is a necessity.  My lips are always chapped, no matter the season which is horribly annoying so I need to have chapstick at all times. I was home in St. Simons Island a few months ago shopping around at the market and spent a lot of time with Gina looking through her products at the Virgin Apothecary booth. Gina has a wide variety of products ranging from essential oils to serums, soaps, salves, and more. Everything is affordable so I ended up buying just about one of everything in a tester size. I loved it all but for my Tucson trip, I packed a few essentials, multi salve, lip balm, hydrating mist, and the facial serum roller to save space in my luggage.

This travel kit is brand new to Virgin Apothecary. Gina and I put it together after a few conversations about what I need when traveling and some of her favorite products. The end result? We ended up including the four products I had taken on my Arizona trip. These are everyday skin essentials that are good to use at home and easy to use while on the road.

  • 1 Pink Lotus/Lavender Hybrid Mist (2 oz)
  • 1 Multi Salve (1 oz)
  • 1 Cocoa Mint Lip Balm
  • 1 Essential Face Serum (10 ml roller)

I never leave my house without chapstick so naturally I was excited to try VA's lip oleo.  After using it for a few months, I'm obsessed. Virgin Apothecary's cocoa and mint concoction is a perfect guilt free sweet that helps keep lips silky smooth.

The facial serum brightens, moisturizes, and soothes making you feel greasy. The roller is a unique application because it is supposed to help with circulation, and it feels wonderful.

The Pink Lotus Lavender Hybrid Mist is by far my favorite. It feels freaking magical. The lavender and lotus is so calming yet refreshing. It’s light and refreshing and a perfect refresher when traveling. When I didn’t have time to go back to my hotel room and freshen I just gave myself a few spritzes and headed back out on the town. Back at home, I put it on in morning right when I wake up like a breath of fresh air. I like to do it at night too after I’ve washed my face to help wind down. The bottle is a little heavier than most travel products but I like that it’s glass because I can use it for something else when I run out of the mist.

Pssst. There's a giveaway down there.

I’ve played tennis my whole life and have several calluses to prove it. The multi-salve is my savior; it even kept my hands velvety smooth in the thick heat of the desert. it's packed with oils like macadamia, jojoba, and coconut and has a bright scent of lemongrass.
